CFSI Releases Updated Conflict Minerals CMRT 3.02 Form

November 12, 2014|Written by GreenSoft Technology, Inc.

The Conflict-Free Sourcing Initiative (CFSI) has released an updated version of the Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) that companies use to transfer information across their supply chains in a standardized format.

Language Translation Improvements & Smelter List Updates
The new version CMRT 3.02 updates the previous version 3.01 with an updated Standard Smelter List and numerous translation improvements, specifically to the German language, according to a press release from CFSI on November 7, 2014.

The new version 3.02 also transitions toward a consistent identification of smelters at the facility-level allowing companies to more accurately track the specific facilities in their supply chains. Previously, many smelters were listed at a group level so that one entry could actually represent multiple facilities. The new version 3.02 uses a facility-level listing so that entries each represent a unique facility.

CFSI recommends that companies use the 3.02 version of the Standard Smelter List for their 2015 reporting to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under the Dodd-Frank Act.

About CFSI and the CMRT Form
CFSI was founded in 2008 by members of the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition and the Global e-Sustainability Initiative. CFSI developed the CMRT form and provides it free to the public as part of their Conflict-Free Smelter Program.

"The Conflict Mineral Reporting Template is a vital tool for companies around the world to gather information about the source of material in their products, and the smelters and refiners that processed those materials. By gathering the same types of information from many levels of the supply chain in a standardized form, companies can make informed choices about conflict minerals in their supply chains," said Michael Rohwer, Program Director of CFSI.

The updated CMRT 3.02 form is available for download on the CFSI website.

What It Means For GreenSoft Customers
Here at GreenSoft, we are pleased with the update as it will allow our customers to better track facilities and smelters along their supply chains.

Our software developers are already in the process of incorporating the new CMRT 3.02 forms and updated smelter list into our GreenData Manager-Conflict Minerals Module software, and the work is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

As manufacturers know, tracking and transferring information across supply chains is challenging and time-consuming. And while the CMRT forms help facilitate this process by providing a standardized form, we still see suppliers submitting incorrect or incomplete information on the forms, or simply not responding to the information request at all. We will gather and validate your CMRT forms and conflict mineral data for you with our Conflict Minerals data services, including our 100+ Point Data Validation System.
