China RoHS Regulation Updated to Restrict 10 Substances in Electronics

China RoHS Regulation now aligns with EU RoHS regulation by restricting 10 substances in electrical and electronic equipment
On August 1, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) published a new mandatory national standard for the China RoHS regulation: GB 26572-2025.
This standard expands the list of restricted substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) from six to ten, matching the EU RoHS Directive, by adding restrictions on four phthalates.
The newly restricted four phthalates are:
- Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
- Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP)
- Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (BEHP)
- Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)
Each of these substances is restricted to a maximum concentration of 0.1% by mass in homogeneous materials.
These four phthalates were previously introduced in a recommended amendment to the GB/T 26572-2011 standard, with a compliance date of January 1, 2026.
The new GB 26572-2025 standard, which includes all 10 substances and additional labeling requirements, will become mandatory starting August 1, 2027.
The full list of restricted substances under China RoHS now includes:
- Lead (Pb)
- Mercury (Hg)
- Cadmium (Cd)
- Hexavalent Chromium (Cr⁶⁺)
- Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
- Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)
- Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
- Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP)
- Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)
- Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)
Details of the new mandatory standard, published in Chinese, can be found here.
