Smelter or Refiner (SOR) Validation
One of your due diligence responsibilities as a manufacturer is to make a reasonable effort to use accurate information from your suppliers. GreenSoft helps you meet these obligations with Smelter or Refiner (SOR) Validation, an optional service for our Conflict Minerals data collection program.

Conflict Free Status Verification
SOR Validation is Critical to Conflict Minerals Compliance
Affected manufacturers are required to submit conflict minerals reports to the SEC annually, and due diligence requirements are becoming increasingly complex. In addition to collecting Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) and Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT) forms, manufacturers are required to validate Smelter or Refiner (SOR) status by contacting smelters directly or working through their supply chain. This growing responsibility, driven by regulatory pressure and consumer demand, makes accurate SOR validation a critical step in compliance.
We collect supply chain data for you
We review and validate Smelter or Refiner (SOR) information provided on collected CMRTs and EMRTs for legitimacy and Conflict Free status and contact suppliers for further validation if needed.
SOR Legitimacy Check
We check SOR information against trusted industry databases, including those from Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI), London Bullion Market Association (LBMA), Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), and others.
Supplier and SOR Engagement
When discrepancies or missing data are found, we engage with your suppliers to clarify or correct CMRTs/EMRTs. If necessary, we communicate directly with SORs to validate information or gather missing details.
Conflict Free Status Verification
For confirmed legitimate SORs that are not yet Conflict Free Smelter Program (CFSP) Compliant, we request their plans and timelines for becoming CFSP Active or CFSP Compliant - the industry standard for conflict free SORs.
Ready to simplify your Conflict Minerals reporting process?
Annual Deadlines and Reporting Requirements
The annual deadline for submitting conflict minerals reports to the SEC is May 31 for the previous calendar year. All publicly-traded companies that are subject to the rule must submit reports, and consumer demand is pushing even out-of-scope companies into voluntary compliance.
Failing to validate SOR data can lead to inaccurate reporting, exposing your company to regulatory risk, reputational damage, and potential supply chain disruptions. Proper validation is a critical step in demonstrating responsible sourcing and meeting due diligence responsibilities.
