New Substance Added to California Prop 65: PCBTF
PCBTF has been added to the California Proposition 65 chemicals list
In June, the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) added p-chloro-α,α,α-trifluorotoluene (para-Chlorobenzotrifluoride, PCBTF) to the list of chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer under the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (CA Proposition 65).
Substances added to the CA Proposition 65 regulated chemicals list are subject to requirements which include exposure notification and warning labels. These notification and label requirements were recently updated in August 2018.
PCBTF is a solvent often used in coatings, and has a wide range of applications including the manufacture of printing inks, cleaners, degreasing agents, aerosols, paints, adhesives, caulks, epoxies, and urethanes.
